5 Ways to Make You Home Smell Like Fall
As we all know, California is blessed with soft autumn season – 100 degrees outside, warm ocean breeze, and green grassy lawns. But wouldn’t you still love to snuggle up with a blanket and some hot tea and forget the fact that summer even came?
This is where the scents can be of a great help to trigger those autumn feelings. Cinnamon-apple coziness and spiced pumpkin sweetness is what screams falling leaves and rainy days.
Today, with the help of Silas & Grace, we decided to put together a list of awesome scent ideas that will make your home smell like fall.
1.Orange Pumpkin Spice
What you need:
- Cinnamon (sticks or ground)
- Orange peels or whole orange
- 2 Teaspoons of brown or white sugar
- 1 Teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 Teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Cloves
What you do:
Fill up a small saucepan with water till it’s 3/4ths full. Add you orange or orange peel, cinnamon (cinnamon in sticks will definitely create more smell), vanilla extract, nutmeg, and sugar. Bring to a boil then simmer on low throughout the day and enjoy the wonderful smell it creates!
2. Slow Cooker Potpourri with Cranberries
What you need:
- 1 Orange
- 2 Cinnamon sticks
- ¼ Teaspoon of ground cloves
- ½ Teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1 Cup of fresh cranberries
What you do:
Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker and fill it with water, covering the ingredients by about 2″. You can leave the floating ingredients on top: they will settle as they simmer. Set you slow cooker on low heat and simmer uncovered for a great smell. From time to time you might need to add some water to ensure ingredients are not burnt.
3. Fall Spice
What you need:
- 1 Lemon
- 1 Orange
- 1 Apple
- 1/2 cup of cranberries
- Cinnamon sticks (or ground cinnamon)
- Whole cloves
- Fresh herbs
- Extracts of vanilla and almond.
- Optional: Essential oils (just a drop or two is all you need)
What you do:
Combine ingredients with water in a saucepan and put on your stove. Simmer on low heat and let the ingredients simmer away as long as you’d like. Make sure you keep an eye on the water so it doesn’t boil over.
4. Cinnamon and Orange Slow Cooker
What you need:
- 2 Oranges, cut in quarters
- 6 Cinnamon sticks
- 2 Tablespoons whole cloves
What you do:
In a crockpot, combine oranges, cinnamon sticks, cloves and water. Turn heat to high and leave the crockpot uncovered. Enjoy the beautiful scents and check in on it every couple of hours and add water as needed.
5. Fall Simmering Apple Potpourri
What you need:
- 1 Small apple thinly sliced
- 2 Cups of preferred liquid (apple cider, apple juice, or water)
- 1 Tablespoon of whole cloves
- 3-4 Cinnamon sticks
- 1 Tablespoon of nutmeg
What you do:
Add all of the ingredients to a small sauce pan and stir. Bring to a gentle boil. Reducing the heat to low, keep adding more liquid (either cider or water) as needed and do not allow to dry up.
Enjoy the wonderful fall scents that fill your home and have a great autumn season!
